Finding a Self-Service Laundromat

Laundromats, are the most exciting place to be on a Friday night, am I right? If you're a laundromat pro, you know the drill. But if you're new to the scene, don't worry, I've got some tips to help you navigate this wild world of washing.

First things first, find a self-serve laundromat near you. Don't just wander around with a basket of dirty clothes like some kind of laundry idiot. Use your internet machine and search for "self-service laundry near me" or "cheapest laundromat." Trust me, it'll save you some time and embarrassment.

Checking Prices and Deals

Next up, check the laundromat prices. We're all about saving that coin, but we're also about not getting ripped off. Some laundromats charge by the hour, while others charge by the load. Many laundromats run specials during the week with free dryers or early bird specials.  Look around your area and you will find deals on the laundry.  And let's not forget the cost of detergent and fabric softener. It's like a whole new world of financial responsibility.

If you're feeling lazy (which let's be real, we all are sometimes), consider a laundry drop-off service or wash and fold service near you.  Some stores offer pickup and delivery laundry services.  You could literally not do your own laundry. Just make sure you check the laundry service cost before you hand over your precious delicates.  It is always a good idea to call the store and ask how they process laundry, when and where pickups can be made, how long it takes to get your laundry back, and any other questions you might have.

Etiquette at the Laundromat

Now, let's talk about etiquette. We're all adults here, but for some reason, laundry brings out the worst in people. Don't hog the machines or leave your laundry sitting around like you are donating it.  Try to be courteous to others around you.  Remember no one wants to be there.

Sorting and Washing Clothes

Separate your clothes like you're categorizing them by color and type. Whites on one side, darks on the other, and colors in the middle. And remember, when in doubt, read the label. It's like a little instruction manual for your clothes.  Use hot water on whites only unless you want your colors to fade.  Most want their colors to stay...colorful.

Find a machine that fits your needs. You want to "Goldilocks" it. Not too big and not too small.  Your clothes should fill the machine but don't over stuff it like your pants.  This will also help you save dollar bills y'all and keep things from getting stuck and ruined in the door when its closed.

Using the right amount of detergent is key. Too much and your clothes will be drowning in suds. Too little and they'll be wearing yesterday's leftovers. Find that perfect balance, my friends.  Most importantly PODS GO IN THE DRUM.  Detergent pods do not sufficiently dissolve in the dispenser.

Be careful with your delicates. No one wants to see you crying over your shrunken silk blouse and no one cares. Use a delicate cycle and a gentle detergent, and whatever you do, do not put them in the dryer unless specified. That's like throwing them into a fiery pit of doom.

Drying Your Clothes

When your wash is done make sure you remove all your clothes from the washer.  Socks are not being disappeared inside of washers and dryers.  They are being left behind like a child's ability to read posts covid.  Most of the trash taken out at laundromats is just socks, and most should have been thrown away years ago.

Drying clothing is apparently tricky for some people.

Step 1. Put your clothes in a dryer.

Step 2. Turn it on.  Not too hot or too long or it will shrink your threads.

If you need help, ask someone.

Finishing Touches

Lastly, don't throw your clothes back in the trash bag you brought them in. You should fold your clothes.  Cleanliness is next to godliness.

So there you have it, folks. The wild and wacky world of laundromats. Just remember to be kind, be clean, and always check for stray socks hiding in the corners. Happy washing!
